We commonly treat problems related to the knee, shoulder, neck, back, ankle, and elbow, along with other regions of the body.

How can the sport medicine physicians at MEDSPORT OTTAWA help me?Our sport medicine physicians can diagnose your problem, order any tests if necessary, and prescribe appropriate treatments and medications. Guiding you back to your activity is also an integral part of your treatment plan that the physician can assist you with. Our physicians will communicate with the referring physician regarding your diagnosis and treatment plan.

Do I need a referral to see a sport medicine physician?A referral from a physician is required for a consultation with a sport medicine physician. Exceptions may be made if your injury is a new acute sport-related injury. We will communicate with your referring physician regarding the plan for your care. Call the clinic for further information regarding how you can set up an appointment for your specific problem.

Do I need to see a medical doctor before l see a physiotherapist, massage therapist or dietitian at MEDSPORT OTTAWA?You do not need to see a medical doctor before you see a physiotherapist, massage therapist or dietitian. However, some extended health care insurance plans require a physician referral for reimbursements purposes. You may obtain that referral from your treating physician, your family physician or our sport medicine physicians.

What kind of treatment options are available from the physiotherapist?Our physiotherapists specialize in the treatment of sport and orthopaedic problems by helping you regain motion, reduce pain and achieve specific performance goals. A variety of techniques are used including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, IMS/dry needling, active release therapy and acupuncture. Our goal is to help you regain your functional ability and improve your quality of life.

How can massage therapy at MEDSPORT OTTAWA help me?Massage therapists are hands on soft tissue specialists. Massage therapy can help with pain management, improved circulation, relaxation, improved flexibility, and decreased muscle tension. These are just some of the ways massage therapy can help promote healing and maintain health and wellness.

Where are you located?Our address is 320 March Road, Suite 300, Ottawa, Ontario, K2K 2E3. We are located in the Gateway Business Park at the northeast corner of March Road and Teron Road. There is a traffic light at this intersection. We are 2 minutes from highway 417 heading north on March Road. You can also find us on Google Maps!

Is there parking available?There is ample free parking at the front of the building.

How do you I get to MEDSPORT by public transit?OC Transpo stop 858 is located directly in front of the building and is served by bus routes 60, 93, 181, 674.

What are the fees for sport medicine physician services?Doctor’s appointments are covered by OHIP for patients with a valid health card number. If you do not have a valid OHIP card or provincial health card you will need to pay for your visit. Quebec patients will need to pay for their visit and will be given the appropriate paperwork to get reimbursed through the REGIS. Most physician services are covered by OHIP with some exceptions. We follow the guidelines of the Ontario Medical Association for non-insured services. The physician will let you know in advance if a proposed service is not covered and the fees involved.

How does direct billing work for physiotherapy, massage therapy and dietician services?Physiotherapy, Massage therapy and Registered Dietitian services are covered by most extended health plans. Check with your provider for specific information on the benefits available to you. We are now able to direct bill for Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy and Dietitian services through Telus e-claims! You only pay for the portion of your visit that is not covered! For more information go to www.telus.com/eclaims to see if your insurer participates.

What forms of payment do you accept for non-OHIP covered services?We accept cash, debit card, and major credit cards (Visa, Master Card) for payment. Debit card is preferred.

Do the physiotherapists treat WSIB patients?We do not treat WSIB patients. Our specialty is sport and exercise related injuries and conditions.

What if I cannot make a scheduled appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?We require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Since time was specifically reserved for you, there will be a fee for not showing up for your appointment or for failing to provide adequate notice. Missed appointments are lost opportunities for other patients who may require more immediate assistance and thus waste valuable health care resources.

How should I prepare for my first visit?If you are seeing a doctor please bring a valid health card with you. Also if you are seeing a doctor, bring a CD or actual films of any XRAY you have had done within the last 2 years for the joint in question. Please come 15 minutes early to register and complete necessary paperwork. You can start your paperwork at home by completing this form. Please bring completed form with you. Bring shorts for examinations of the low back and below. For our female patients who will need a neck and upper extremity examination, a loose fitting tank top is ideal. Help us be green and environmentally friendly by reducing our need to launder clothes that are worn for only brief periods and bring your own loose fitting clothing to be examined in.

Which treatments are best for my condition?For many musculoskeletal problems, a number of different therapeutic options or a combination of treatments may be required in order to rehabilitate your condition. Every patient is different, so our trained and experienced health care providers can recommend the treatment options that would be best suited for you. Your feedback on how you are responding is important to us, so that we can monitor and adjust your treatment accordingly. At MEDSPORT Ottawa, your individualized treatment program may include a number of health care providers, all working together to get you better.

Do the physiotherapists treat Medavie Blue Cross patients?Yes, we are equipped to see Medavie Blue Cross members with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). How do I request a referral from a Sport Medicine Physician at MEDSPORT Ottawa?Please fax your referral to 613-270-0982. We require the patient name, date of birth, health card number and contact information so that we can call the patient. Please include your billing number, telephone number and fax number.

Will I be negated if my patient sees a Sport Medicine Physician at MEDSPORT Ottawa?No. We have GP Focused Practice Designated physicians.

Do you call the patient with an appointment or does my office have to do this?We will call the patient to set up the appointment and will send you a confirmation notice.

What is the wait time for an appointment?Generally the wait time is within weeks of contacting the patient. If you think your patient needs more urgent assessment, please call the clinic to discuss the case with the physician or indicate URGENT clearly on the referral.

What type of consults are appropriate for a Sport Medicine Physician?We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions related to sport, exercise and healthy active living. We commonly treat problems related to the knee, shoulder, neck, back, ankle, and elbow, along with other regions of the body. We provide conservative treatment for acute injuries, overuse musculoskeletal conditions, and degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis. Patients that are surgical candidates will be directed to an appropriate orthopeadic surgeon or specialist. We provide concussion management and baseline testing for sport related concussions.

Do you do joint and soft tissue injections?Yes. We do cortisone injections for both joint and soft tissue conditions, as well as viscosupplementation of intra-articular joints.

What type of consults are not appropriate for a Sport Medicine Physician?We are not trained nor are we specialized in the management of chronic pain, disability determinations, and concussions that are complex and chronic in nature requiring a multi-disciplinary treatment approach.
