DR. RENATA FRANKOVICH
SPORT AND EXERCISE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
• BMath, MD, FCFP, Dip. Sport Med. Dr. Frankovich graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Doctor of Medicine in 1994 and from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics in 1982. After medical school she completed Family Medicine training at Western, where she was the Chief Resident of her program. She continued with further specialized training in sports medicine, working with Division I athletes at Ball State University, and completing a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Ball Memorial Hospital/Central Indiana Sports Medicine in Muncie, Indiana. Dr Frankovich has been actively involved in the sport medicine community in a number of leadership roles. She was a board member of the Ontario Medical Association Sport Medicine Section for 13 years, serving as Chair from 2006-2007. She was also on the board of the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) for 8 years and served as President from 2012-2013. She chaired the Canadian Concussion Collaborative in 2013 and has been the CASEM representative on the Exercise is Medicine Canada Advisory board since 2012. In recognition of her contributions, Dr Frankovich has been awarded the 2007 Sport Medicine Community Physician of the Year by CASEM. Dr. Frankovich is involved in medical education and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa, Department of Family Medicine. She teaches medical students, residents and fellows in her office, giving them clinical experience in sport and exercise medicine. She frequently is asked to speak on sport medicine subjects, particularly those related to running injuries, osteoarthritis, sport concussion and knee injuries. She has presented at major national and international conferences including the CASEM annual symposium, Team Physician Course and the American College of Sport Medicine meeting. Dr. Frankovich was part of the core Canadian medical team at the 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games. She was Assistant Chief Medical Officer for the 2007 Pan Am Games and 2010 Olympics. She has been to two World University Games – one as Chief Medical Officer in Korea in 2003 and one as a member of the core medical team in Beijing China in 2001. She has been Chief Medical Officer for a number of events including the 2001 Brier Men’s National Curling Championship, 2006 and 2014 National Figure Skating Championships, 2006 Ontario Summer Games, and 2008 Junior National Figure Skating Champions. Dr. Frankovich has been involved with University of Ottawa Gee Gees teams since 1999. April 2018: A big congratulations to Dr. Renata Frankovich who was one of three finalists in the 2017 Businesswoman of the Year Awards (BYAs) Professional Category.
DR. JENNIFER MCDONALD
PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION PHYSICIAN
• Honours BSc, MD, FRCPC, CSCN Diplomate (EMG) Dr. McDonald is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician with a special interest in sport medicine, concussion management, and the diagnosis and rehabilitation of complex musculoskeletal and neurological injuries. She is a consultant at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus and The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre. She is actively involved in clinical research and medical education through the division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa. Dr. McDonald graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science in 2007. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 2011. After medical school, she completed her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation training at the University of Ottawa. She is also a licensed Electromyographer through the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists. Dr. McDonald will be completing a 6-month fellowship at the University of Toronto in January 2017 focused on ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal injections and interventions. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctors, also known as Physiatrists, are physicians specializing in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of muscle, nerve and joint complaints. Electromyography is a diagnostic test that assesses the health of muscles and the nerves that control them. It is used to confirm the diagnosis of certain muscle diseases and nerve injuries.
DR. SASHA CARSEN
ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON
• MD, MBA, FRCSC Dr. Carsen is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in pediatric, adolescent, and young adult Orthopaedic sports medicine. He has full time clinical practice based at CHEO, and also serves as a consultant at the Ottawa Hospital. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery within the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Ottawa, and has an active academic and research practice. Dr. Carsen graduated from McGill medical school after an undergraduate science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. Orthopaedic Surgery training took place here in Ottawa, and was followed by a sub-specialty fellowship year in Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Harvard University and Boston Children’s Hospital. This was also followed by further fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at UBC and BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Carsen is active within the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine group, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Canadian Pediatric Orthopaedic Study Group, to name but a few. Dr. Carsen will be seeing consultations primarily in the area of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult orthopaedic sports medicine, as well as pediatric orthopaedics.
DR. MARC MONSOUR
PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION PHYSICIAN
• HONOURS BSc, MSc, MD FRCPC Dr. Marc Monsour graduated from the University of Ottawa with an H.B.Sc in Human Kinetics and completed a Masters in Neuroscience at Western University. He then attended Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, where he received his undergraduate Medical Degree and then returned to the University of Ottawa to complete his 5-year residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He recently completed a fellowship at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute for Interventional Physiatry for pain management. Dr. Monsour’s primary interests include sports medicine, peripheral joint injections, spinal procedures, and nerve blocks. As a Physiatrist, he works with his patients to improve their function. Dr. Monsour is very active and competed internationally in Karate. He has sustained a few injuries in training and competitions. As such, he understands the importance of rehabilitation to return to sport.
DR. YUHAO SHI
SPORT AND EXERCISE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
Dr. Shi is a Sport Medicine Specialist who also practices general Family Medicine. He graduated from McGill University with a joint degree in Computer Science and Biology and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto. He then finished his Family Medicine training at the University of Toronto, before completing further training in Sport Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Shi has worked with athletes of all levels and is involved in the care of varsity athletes at the local universities. He was also the Chief Medical Officer of the World Women’s Curling Championship in 2021. Dr. Shi also has an interest in education. He is involved in the teaching of clinical skills to medical students at the University of Ottawa, and he was also the editor-in-chief of the book Essentials of Clinical Examination Handbook, 8th edition.
DR. JODY YOUNG
PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION PHYSICIAN
Dr. Young is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist with an interest in musculoskeletal conditions in the active patient population. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University, Dr. Young went on to complete her Family Medicine residency training from the University of British Columbia, Victoria and Rural Program. She served in the Canadian Armed Forces in various roles in clinics, deployed and supporting members with environmental training in both Advance Dive and Flight Surgeon courses. She went on to complete Specialist training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and interventional musculoskeletal pain medicine with the University of Ottawa. Dr. Young values a holistic approach to patient centered care.
DR. MICHAEL OSMOND
PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION PHYSICIAN
Dr. Michael Osmond completed medical school at the University of Toronto and post-graduate training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa. He has also completed a fellowship in ultrasound-guided interventional musculoskeletal medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Osmond is certified in Electromyography by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists. Dr. Osmond’s other clinical and academic interests include: sports medicine, medical education and human anatomy teaching.
DR. NICOLE LASKOSKY
SPORT AND EXERCISE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
• BSc, MD, CCFP (SEM) Dr. Nicole Laskosky graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California with a BSc in Health, Exercise, and Sport Science and completed her medical school training from the University College Cork in Ireland. She then completed her Family Medicine and Sport and Exercise Medicine training at the University of Ottawa. Having competed as a high-level athlete, playing both varsity volleyball in the ACAC and field hockey in the CIS, and NCAA Division I., Dr. Laskosky sustained a handful of injuries and understands the importance of rehabilitation and return to play protocols. She has worked with athletes at all levels, including varsity, national, and international levels. Dr. Laskosky’s primary interests include sport medicine, image-guided injections, and team medicine.

SANDEEP KULKARNI
REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Sandeep graduated from the McGill University School of Physiotherapy in 2000. He has been working as a physiotherapist for over 22 years in many clinical settings and owned his own clinic for over 14 years. He has taken numerous courses in manual therapy, TMJ, dry needling and acupuncture. Throughout his experience as a Physiotherapist, Sandeep has developed a keen interest in Vestibular Rehabilitation. He has obtained his vestibular certification from Emory University in 2009, and his advanced vestibular certification from Duke University in 2014. He has also obtained Shift Concussion Management Certification and is a certified ImPACT trained Physiotherapist (ITPT). He has also taught numerous continuing education courses, in-services, and lectures in the field of vestibular rehabilitation, and is a part time lecturer at the University of Ottawa. His main practice focus is treating patients with inner ear disorders and post concussion syndrome, as well as those with various orthopedic and sports injuries. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and running.
CHANDANI AMIN
REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Chandani obtained her Bachelors of Physiotherapy degree in 2009 and she pursued a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Northern Illinois University (USA) in 2011. With over 10 years of experience working as a physiotherapist in various settings, Chandani has developed a keen interest in treating complex shoulder, knee and spine injuries over the course of her career. She has completed various courses in manual therapy, soft tissue and trigger point release, myofascial release, non-surgical rotator cuff repairs, non-surgical spine and sports rehabilitation and so on. Chandani enjoys treating all types of orthopedic and sports injuries, pre and post surgical conditions as well as neurological conditions. Chandani believes that identifying the root cause of problem is the key to treating any condition and it is also the best way to prevent recurrence of injuries.
FLORENCE CHEUNG
REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Florence completed her BSc in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa in 2017, graduating Magna cum Laude, before she obtained her Master of Physical Therapy at Western University in 2023. Previously she worked as a registered Kinesiologist in Ontario for a few years, working with a multi-disciplinary team prescribing exercises to patients with concussions, and chronic pain. Florence enjoys treating orthopaedic conditions by incorporating functional exercises to one’s daily routine. She believes exercise is the best medicine to prevent and treat orthopaedic conditions! On her spare time, she loves travelling, climbing, hiking, slacklining and trying new foods.
LAURA RAMIREZ WOLFF
REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Laura is originally from Colombia where she completed her physiotherapy degree in 2011. She also has a Master’s in Sports Physiotherapy and is trained as a Stott Pilates instructor. Laura focuses on treating musculoskeletal/orthopedic conditions and various sports injuries in the private practice setting. She’s registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and has over 8 years of experience as a Pilates/fitness instructor Her treatments focus on education, the use of modalities, manual therapy, and exercise/Pilates to help patients reach their goals. For Laura exercise is the key to achieving a healthy life.
ANDREE CONDIE
REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST
• R.P.T., M.C.P.A. Andree is a bilingual physiotherapist with over 34 years of experience. Andree graduated with magna cum laude from the University of Ottawa. She also completed the extensive post-graduate requirements through her Canadian Physiotherapy Orthopaedic Association to become a manual therapist. She has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient private clinics and with hospital inpatients in cardiac and orthopaedic settings. A believer in lifelong learning, Andree has continued to take post-graduate courses to further improve her skills of assessment and treatments. As well, her love for sports such as triathlon, golf and hockey has allowed her to specialize in many sports-oriented treatments such as golf injury prevention and rehabilitation with FIT for golf and treatment and evaluation of runners and dry needling techniques.
MICHEIL HILL
PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Micheil’s primary interest is the treatment of orthopaedic injuries using exercise and manual (“hands-on”) techniques. He originally graduated from the University of Guelph with a BSc. Human Kinetics and then continued on to complete his MSc. Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto in 2003. Since graduating he has practiced as a physiotherapist and has continued to take courses in manual therapy, acupuncture, and dry-needling. Outside of the clinic Mike enjoys the outdoors whether ice-climbing, rock climbing, white water canoeing or hiking. Mike has also worked seasonally for more than 10 years an expedition hiking and canoe guide in the Canadian Arctic and Subarctic Regions. Somehow, he also fits in being a dad to an extremely active young daughter.

THOMASINA LARKIN
REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST
Thomasina has been a Registered Massage Therapist since 2011. She has completed thousands of hours in advanced massage training (for example, Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy, Cranial Sacral, Thai Yoga massage, Lomi Lomi, and more). She previously owned a platinum-award-winning massage clinic near Kingston, and has taught clinical massage techniques at workshops and conferences across North America. Her range of treatment types includes injury rehabilitation, sports massage, chronic pain management, deep tissue, and relaxation and most often custom-creates a treatment using a blend of several modalities to suit her client’s needs on that day. Thomasina takes a holistic approach and looks at how the whole body is connected and how the body and mind are connected. Her mind-body background comes from 15 years of experience as a yoga instructor, a Master’s degree in the Psychology and Neuroscience of mental health, and one year of studies in Gestalt Clinical Psychotherapy. Thomasina also has a graduate certificate in pain management, and she is halfway through a college diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice.

Debora is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Personal Trainer, and CrossFit Level 1 Certified Coach. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Western Ontario and her clinical internship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. Debora has been living with Type 1 Diabetes since the age of 12, and was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease, so she has first-hand experience in these areas, in addition to expertise in the management and prevention of nutrition related diseases, sport nutrition, exercise, metabolic disorders, and weight management. As a certified fitness and nutrition professional, an athlete, and a busy mom of two, Deb understands the many challenges involved in balancing life, healthy living, and proper fueling. She practices what she preaches and sets out to motivate her clients to find healthy solutions – ones that are customized, easy, affordable, balanced, sustainable and evidence-based. In addition, Debora offers body composition testing with InBody – a non-invasive test using advanced bio-impedance technology that provides quantitative information about your body composition, including lean mass and body fat percentage.

Donna Hagan joined the Medsport Ottawa team in March 2017. Donna has extensive experience as both a Clinic Receptionist and Physiotherapy Aide. As a transplant from West London, UK to the Ottawa Valley, Donna loves the Valley life! She enjoys biking and running in the summer, to skiing in the winter, and Donna stays busy as a dedicated Rugby Mom and devoted Nana!

Diane has worked in Health Care at The Ottawa Hospital the majority of her career. She spent many years at the Civic Campus starting as a Nursing Assistant in the OR, moving around to many departments and ending her career as a Clinical Coordinator in Pathology at the General Campus. After retirement from TOH, Diane embarked on her next career as a Physiotherapy aide and administrator at Physio Optimum for 5 years before joining the teamMedsport Ottawa. Other interests include being active with Girl Guides of Canada for 35 years as well as President of Glen Cairn Tennis Club for 14 years. Diane love tennis, cycling, and travelling.

Brenda joined Medsport Ottawa in November 2023, after completing an honors diploma in Medical Office Administration (MOA) from Algonquin Careers Academy and working as a receptionist in a family medicine clinic. Driven by her passion for healthcare and pain management, Brenda is currently pursuing further studies in acupuncture. In her spare time, she enjoys tennis, figure skating, and going to the gym.
CAROLINE PAUHL
OFFICE ADMIN / PHYSIOTHERAPY AIDE
The majority of Caroline's career has been spent working in the medical field, starting out as both a hospital and community nurse and then to a family doctor's office as a nurse and medical office admin. From there Caroline asssumned the role of medical office administrator in a hospital setting and most recently at the Ottawa Hospital, Riverside Campus for 15 years. When not devoted to the medical community, Caroline spends time with her grandkids, taking long walks, reading, sewing, cross country skiing in the winter and playing board and card games with her husband and friends. Playing Chinese Majongg with a small group of local retired woman rounds out her relax time.
