Q: What kind of injuries and conditions does MEDSPORT OTTAWA treat?
A: We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions related to sport, exercise and healthy active living. We commonly treat problems related to the knee, shoulder, neck, back, ankle, and elbow, along with other regions of the body.
Q: How can the sport medicine physicians at MEDSPORT OTTAWA help me?
A: Our sport medicine physicians can diagnose your problem, order any tests if necessary, and prescribe appropriate treatments and medications. Guiding you back to your activity is also an integral part of your treatment plan that the physician can assist you with. Our physicians will communicate with the referring physician regarding your diagnosis and treatment plan.
Q: Do I need a referral to see a sport medicine physician?
A: A referral from a physician is required for a consultation with a sport medicine physician. Exceptions may be made if your injury is a new acute sport-related injury. We will communicate with your referring physician regarding the plan for your care. Call the clinic for further information regarding how you can set up an appointment for your specific problem.
Q: Do I need to see a medical doctor before l see a physiotherapist, massage therapist or dietitian at MEDSPORT OTTAWA?
A: You do not need to see a medical doctor before you see a physiotherapist, massage therapist or dietitian. However, some extended health care insurance plans require a physician referral for reimbursements purposes. You may obtain that referral from your treating physician, your family physician or our sport medicine physicians.
Q: What kind of treatment options are available from the physiotherapist?
A: Our physiotherapists specialize in the treatment of sport and orthopaedic problems by helping you regain motion, reduce pain and achieve specific performance goals. A variety of techniques are used including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, IMS/dry needling, active release therapy and acupuncture. Our goal is to help you regain your functional ability and improve your quality of life.
Q: How can massage therapy at MEDSPORT OTTAWA help me?
A: Massage therapists are hands on soft tissue specialists. Massage therapy can help with pain management, improved circulation, relaxation, improved flexibility, and decreased muscle tension. These are just some of the ways massage therapy can help promote healing and maintain health and wellness.

Q: What are the fees for sport medicine physician services?
A: Doctor’s appointments are covered by OHIP for patients with a valid health card number. If you do not have a valid OHIP card or provincial health card you will need to pay for your visit.
Quebec patients will need to pay for their visit and will be given the appropriate paperwork to get reimbursed through the REGIS.
Most physician services are covered by OHIP with some exceptions. We follow the guidelines of the Ontario Medical Association for non-insured services. The physician will let you know in advance if a proposed service is not covered and the fees involved.
Q: How does direct billing work for physiotherapy, massage therapy and dietician services?
A: Physiotherapy, Massage therapy and Registered Dietitian services are covered by most extended health plans. Check with your provider for specific information on the benefits available to you. We are now able to direct bill for Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy and Dietitian services through Telus e-claims! You only pay for the portion of your visit that is not covered! For more information go to www.telus.com/eclaims to see if your insurer participates.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept for non-OHIP covered services?
A: We accept cash, debit card, and major credit cards (Visa, Master Card) for payment. Debit card is preferred.
Q: Do the physiotherapists treat WSIB patients?
A: We do not treat WSIB patients. Our specialty is sport and exercise related injuries and conditions.
Q: What if I cannot make a scheduled appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?
A: We require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Since time was specifically reserved for you, there will be a fee for not showing up for your appointment or for failing to provide adequate notice. Missed appointments are lost opportunities for other patients who may require more immediate assistance and thus waste valuable health care resources.
Q: How should I prepare for my first visit?
A: If you are seeing a doctor please bring a valid health card with you. Also if you are seeing a doctor, bring a CD or actual films of any XRAY you have had done within the last 2 years for the joint in question.
Please come 15 minutes early to register and complete necessary paperwork.
You can start your paperwork at home by completing this form. Please bring completed form with you.

Every patient is different, so our trained and experienced health care providers can recommend the treatment options that would be best suited for you. Your feedback on how you are responding is important to us, so that we can monitor and adjust your treatment accordingly.
